A Jamestown native signs copies of his first book at the Alfred Dickey Public Library – Jamestown Sun

JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown native will be signing copies of his first book this week at the Alfred Dickey Public Library.

Jesse Anderson, who writes under the pen name MC Presler, will sign and sell copies of “Not a King,” the first in a series of books he plans, he said. Book 1 is “The Mage.” The “Not a King,” Book 1, “The Mage,” book signing and meet-and-greet event will be held Saturday, July 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library.

Anderson said he was born and raised in Jamestown and moved to New Rockford, North Dakota, 10 years ago, where he works for Eddy County.

He said he had always enjoyed writing.

“My father used to write short stories and I think I got my creativity from him in some way,” Anderson said.

He said it was not his intention to write a book.

“I’ve written a lot of unpublished short stories and that’s how this book started, as a kind of short story for my two children,” he said. “I guess the more I wrote, the more I decided, maybe I’ll do a three-book series and then actually publish it.”

He said that writing “The Mage” and the second book in the saga took four years, but that the subsequent books progressed much faster.

Book 2, Dragon Blood, is being sent to the publisher this month and he is almost finished with book 3.

“The story just keeps getting bigger,” he said. “…I’m currently writing the fourth book in this saga.”

He said he expects there to be at least seven books in the saga, but there could be more. He says the saga has a beginning and an end.

From the synopsis of Not the King Book 1, The Mage follows the journey of Alexandria Adameier, a mage (a person with magical abilities) who learns she has very powerful mage blood known as Dragonblood. 25 years prior, there was a war against mages and most of the mages on the continent of Pilanor were killed. A new king in power, King Eric the Destroyer, has his people’s blood tested at age 16 and if they are found to have powerful mage blood, they are purged from the population. Alexandria’s 16th birthday is just a few months away. Alexandria, her maid Riley Long, and her younger brother Taylon try to escape the king’s wrath. The journey takes the group through the Northwest Territory as they try to find Alexandria’s grandmothers in the Black Tooth Mountains. Follow the epic journey of a young girl as she learns to use her newfound powers as she tries to survive in the harsh landscape of the Northwest Territory.

“Their main goal is basically to save the continent from a ruthless king,” Anderson said.

He said the saga will appeal to readers who like fantasy and adventure and are interested in magicians and dragons.

Anderson’s pseudonym, MC Presler, comes from the names of his paternal grandparents, he said. MC were his grandfather’s initials and Presler was his grandmother’s maiden name.

“Not A King,” Book 1, “The Mage,” is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other sites that sell books, he said. It’s also available as an e-book, and he hopes to have it available as an audiobook in the next few years.
