Sponsorship and more: Neo works with the English football club Wolves

Neo, the fintech company for cross-border payments and foreign exchange (FX) trading, has entered the sports industry and signed a partnership with English football club Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (Wolves). The deal announced today sees Neo become the football club’s official FX trading partner.

AstroPay, another FX company, has been Wolves’ main partner and shirt sponsor for the past few years, but that deal was not renewed this season. For the upcoming season, Debet, an online gambling website, has become the main sponsor.

A new form of sports sponsorship

“Becoming Wolves’ official foreign exchange transfer partner is a huge step forward for Neo and demonstrates our ability to partner with exciting global organizations to help them optimize their multi-currency needs,” said Laurent Descout, co-founder and CEO of Neo.

Under the partnership agreement, Neo will help the sports club reduce its foreign exchange transaction costs by processing foreign exchange and multi-currency transfers. The fintech will also be able to promote its brand through the club’s infrastructure.

“Foreign exchange management is a key part of the commercial side of our football club,” said Russell Jones, Wolves’ General Manager of Marketing and Commercial Growth. “It is vital that we work with trusted partners to ensure our processes are streamlined and we are confident that our partnership with Neo will add value to our global operations.”

In an interview with Finance Magnates earlier this year, Descout revealed that “half of the on-chain payments eventually use stablecoins.”

Brand promotion in a top football league

Wolves play in the English Premier League, the country’s top football league. It is also considered one of the most competitive domestic football leagues and attracts the attention of sports fans worldwide.

Founded in 1877, the club has a rich history and considerable online popularity. On Instagram, the club has 2.9 million followers, while on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook the figure is 1.2 million and 3.3 million respectively.

The club is based in the British city of Wolverhampton and plays at Molineux Stadium, its home stadium, which has a capacity of 32,050 spectators.

In other popular sports sponsorship deals, cryptocurrency exchange Kraken recently entered into partnerships with England’s Tottenham Hotspurs and Spain’s Atlético de Madrid. Another crypto exchange, BingX, extended its deal with Chelsea FC.
