Stuntman falls 20 feet to his death on the sets of Karthi’s Sardar 2; producers express condolences

A stuntman met with a fatal accident on Tuesday (July 16) on the sets of PS Mithran’s film Sardar 2, starring Karthi in the lead role. The stuntman, named Elumalai, fell 20 feet from a podium while shooting an action scene and was rushed to the hospital. Stuntman dies on the set of Sardar 2

The shooting of the film was taking place at LV Prasad Studios in Saligramam, Chennai. The Virugambakkam police have been informed about the accident and an investigation is underway. Elumalai was 54 years old and sustained serious injuries in the fall. He died of internal bleeding at 11.30 pm. The shooting of Sardar 2 has been halted.

Statement from the production company

Prince Pictures, the production company of Sardar 2, released a press release confirming the news: “We regret to announce the demise of Mr. Elumalai, a member of the Stunt Union, who was working as a stuntman on the sets of our film Sardar 2. On Tuesday evening, July 16, after the stunt sequences were shot and we were wrapping up the shoot for the day, Mr. Elumalai accidentally fell from a 20-foot high platform and sustained injuries.”

They added: “He was rushed to the nearby multi-specialty hospital where he was treated by the medical team. However, on 16 July 2024 at around 11:30pm, Mr Elumalai unfortunately passed away despite intensive medical treatment. Our entire team extends our sincere condolences to Mr Elumalai’s family and we stand with them in this time of grief.”

At the time of writing this article, Karthi has not made any statement.

The shootout at Sardar 2

Sardar 2 was officially launched on July 12 with a pooja ceremony attended by Mithran and Karthi. Karthi’s father, actor Sivakumar, also attended the event. The shooting of the film began on July 15 in Chennai and the accident occurred on the second day of shooting. The film is a sequel to Mithran and Karthi’s 2022 film Sardar, a spy thriller in which the actor played a dual role.
