Randy Blythe reveals details of his next book and talks about anniversaries

“I can’t think of much to say about a record we made 20 years ago. I don’t have anything really new to say and a lot of those memories are blurry.”

Randy Blythe didn’t mince his words when he spoke on Loudwire Nights Tuesday (July 16) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lamb of God’s album, Ashes of the wake.

“I have certain (memories) that stand out,” he said of the record, “but I can rehash them ad nauseam. Nothing else will come back because that was many years – or many beers – ago.”

However, Blythe admitted to host Chuck Armstrong that he never hesitated to join in the festivities. Ashes of the wakenamely the 20th anniversary reissue of the album and the co-headlining tour with Mastodon (which coincidentally Leviathan on the same day as Ashes of the wake 2004).

“These are our friends,” Blythe said of Mastodon. “I mean, it kind of puts us in the old man role, I guess… That’s fine with me… I’m excited. I’m excited to be old. I’m excited to be here.”

Randy Blythe is ready to publish his next book

Ashes of the wake is not the only anniversary celebration coming up for Blythe. Next year will mark a decade since he published his first book, Dark Days: A Memoir.

“I’ll be writing books long after ‘Lamb of God’ is finished,” Blythe said.

“When I wrote (Dark days), I know some people were disappointed that there wasn’t more stuff about Lamb of God and heavy metal, but you know, I wanted the book to be read by a much wider audience than just metalheads, and I wanted it to stand the test of time, to be a kind of universal human history.”

Before the 10th anniversary of Dark days However, Blythe is expecting the publication of his next book.

“I’m currently finishing revising my second book. It took me ten years to write it. It will be published next year – probably in February.”

When asked whether the follow-up measures Dark days is another kind of memoir, Blythe wasn’t sure how to describe it.

“It’s more of a collection of essays,” he revealed.

“Individual chapters that are self-contained stories. It was much harder to write than my last book. In the last book there is a narrative arc and I knew exactly what was going to happen. I knew that story, I had already experienced it. When I started writing this book I had ideas about what I wanted to say, but I wasn’t quite sure what ground I would cover.”

For readers who were a little nervous about reading Blythe’s 500-page Dark daysHe is confident that the second book will be a little easier to carry.

“The book is much shorter. Thank God.”
