On a visit to his village, he viewed the famous Bekal Fort in Kasargod, built by Hiriya Venkatappa Nayaka and completed by Shivappa Nayaka, a member of the Keladi Nayaka clan. He was inspired by the bravery, military acumen and intelligence of the Nayakas and recalled many fascinating stories from his grandparents about how his family was connected to the Nayakas of Keladi. This inspired his search for his roots and this book is a humble attempt to pen his life story and commemorate his heritage.
