Ingrid Andress – a Colorado-raised singer-songwriter – went viral after singing the national anthem at the 2024 Home Run Derby on Monday night… for all the wrong reasons.

A video of Andress’ performance was already being talked about on social media before the game began, with viewers calling it “one of the worst” renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in history.

“My ears are bleeding,” wrote one viewer on X. “One of the worst national anthem performances ever. Fergie thanks her for the award.”

In a statement Tuesday morning, Andress said she was drunk during the performance.

“I’m checking myself into a clinic today to get the help I need,” the 32-year-old singer explained. “That wasn’t me last night. I apologize to the MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that performance. I’ll tell you all what rehab is like, I hear it’s a lot of fun.”

Andress sang the anthem a cappella at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and had a unique interpretation of certain notes throughout the song.

“This person tried to sing the national anthem in a voice so shrill that even the bald eagle covered its ears,” wrote another viewer.

Andress grew up in Highlands Ranch and has released numerous hits and two albums since her breakthrough single “More Hearts Than Mine” peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2019.

The Colorado-born singer has received four Grammy nominations in her career but has yet to win. Andress was nominated for Best Country Song, Best Country Album and Best New Artist in 2021 and is nominated for Best Performance by a Country Duo/Group in 2023.

Many social media users were quick to compare Andress’ performance at the Home Run Derby to Fergie’s performance of the national anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
