The Sam Houston Center’s quarterly book club meets in August

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Liberty, TX – The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty invites readers to participate in the next edition of the SHC Book Club on August 27. The theme is The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis.

The stately main branch of the New York Public Library serves as the setting for this historical novel about a Berg Collection curator and her grandmother. The curator is living in the 1990s and working on an exhibition when she discovers that items have gone missing. Her grandmother lived in an apartment in the library in 1913, as she was married to the director. Explore the connections between their lives and the struggles they faced with this book and learn about life behind the scenes at a major American library.

The Sam Houston Center Book Club is open to all and presents works of fiction related to the world of museums, archives, and libraries. The remaining meetings in 2024 will be held on the fourth Tuesday of August and November from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Center’s main building at 650 FM 1011 in Liberty. The Center houses extensive archival holdings documenting Southeast Texas, a library collection, and a museum, providing an ideal setting for discussions about novels from these fields. Each meeting will be led by SHC staff.

Interested participants can pick up a copy of the novels at their local library or favorite bookstore to prepare for the conversation. For more information, contact SHC staff at (936) 336-8821 or email [email protected].
