HUDSON – The Hudson Area Library will host the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program for a book talk titled “From the Hudson to the Taconics – A look at our landscape through the lens of Hudson Area habitats” on Thursday, July 25 at 6 p.m.

This is the fifth in a series of talks at Columbia County Libraries introducing the Farmscape Ecology Program and Hudsonia’s new book, From the Hudson to the Taconics: An Ecological and Cultural Field Guide to the Habitats of Columbia County, New York.

The book’s authors will also lead a habitat exploration walk at the Greenport Conservation Area on Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m., where participants will have the opportunity to explore several different habitats with the help of the field guide.

The book talk is free and offers an opportunity to learn directly from the authors about the field guide and selected habitats in the Hudson region, including their ecology, associated plants and animals, history, management, cultural perspectives, and opportunities to interact more deeply with them.

The Habitat Exploration Hike is a guided exploration of several habitats, including unique Hudson River habitats such as clay bluffs and ravines, using the Field Guide (copies will be provided for participants to borrow or can be purchased at the event). While the hike is free, registration for the hike is required and can be done by emailing [email protected] or calling 518-828-1792 x101.
