Liam Benzvi and Blood Orange release new song “Other Guys”: Listen

In recent years, Liam Benzvi has worked with Porches, Hatchie, Coco & Clair Clair and others. The New York pop-rock musician, who formerly played in the indie-pop band Strange Names, is preparing to release his new album …and his Splash Band; last month he released the first single “Dust” and today he is back with “Other Guys”.

“Other Guys” features his frequent collaborator Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange. Benzvi explained of the track:

For me, the song has always felt like a meditation, and I meditate or wash everything by moving – whether it’s walking, running or driving – so we knew the video had to represent constant movement. Also, New York, a big city but often feeling so small, is meant to have its own character that changes shape around us. The video has an aimless and aimless quality that I really love – a content, wandering feeling. And because the band is there and Dev is there, it doesn’t feel lonely, because it’s not.

The song came from a demo of a completely different song I wrote in 2016, only to pull it out and rewrite it when I needed it most. I think it’s pretty obvious what it’s about – rediscovering yourself, being social, being sexual, knowing what you like and don’t like. “Six Degrees I’m On You” refers to how small the world feels sometimes. Dev is one of my good friends and I already knew our voices sounded good together, so his vocals added the most perfect texture to the song and I’m more than happy with how it all came out. Co-producing the whole thing between New York and LA with Nightfeelings, Middle Part and Frank Corr was also extremely satisfying and fun.
