Superintendent Booth shares his vision with the Cadiz Rotary Club

With less than a month left before the start of the 2024-25 school year, the Cadiz Rotary Club heard from new Trigg County School Superintendent Rex Booth Tuesday afternoon – a welcoming conversation that paved the way for discussions about his arrival and the future of the school district.

In his role, it is unusual to be younger than 40 years old.

A 2005 graduate of Edmonson County High School, he has done it all at a young age: head basketball coach at 23, school counselor at 27, and high school principal at 32.

And he believes that gives him an advantage – because he is still connected to the people he serves.

Given the vast experience he had already gained, Booth could have taken the next step in his career anywhere in the Commonwealth.

When asked again, “Why Trigg County?” he reiterated that this community is a “sleeping giant” that has a lot to offer, especially in terms of tourism and recreation, and that I-24 runs right through the area.

During the interview, he also liked the fact that the entire district was on one campus, which created a more family-like atmosphere. He also wanted to be in a place where his own family could grow up in the classroom.

Moreover, and perhaps selfishly, it made sense to move closer to his wife’s family, the Gipsons of Marshall County, and Booth felt that “if the board agreed” … this would probably have to be one of the “last steps” of his appointment.

Leaving Russellville, however, was not easy.

With so much to do in these first few weeks, Booth said, the work is like “drinking from a fire hydrant” right now, with little sign of slowing down. Time will only go faster starting in August, when an open house for the CTE remodeling will be held on Aug. 2 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., which Gov. Andy Beshear will also attend.

Another important item on his agenda is the fact that House Bill 2, which calls on the public to vote for or against granting public funds to private schools, will be put to a vote in November of this year.

Booth said he and his family traveled back and forth between Cadiz and Russellville at least twice a day and would move to the area on August 5.

Another date to note: Trigg County’s Meet & Greet is scheduled for July 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Co-Curricular Building and includes all newly hired teachers.
