Henderson Hall is the setting for a reenactment of the Civil War

WILLIAMSTOWN, W.Va. (WTAP) – A Civil War reenactment is scheduled to take place this weekend at Henderson Hall outside Williamstown.

Expected to begin around 9am, performers will travel back to the 1860s to recreate a battle that might have taken place during that time. The event will feature cavalry, cannon and infantry displays, and there will also be a tea party for guests alongside the immersion.

Logan Saho, the event’s host, says reenactments like this are an important way to remember our history.

“This is very important because there were a lot of skirmishes around here,” Saho said. “We don’t talk about it much. This weekend we’re doing a fictional retelling of the crossing of the General Morgan, which actually took place downriver past Williamstown.”

Janis Medeiros, one of Henderson Hall’s lead volunteers, says the hall is a wonderful venue for the reenactment since it hasn’t been held for the past three years.

“It’s unique,” said Medeiros. “It’s a good place for it, a very good place. We want to bring history to life for the local people.”

Saho adds that he hopes about 50 to 80 reenactors will participate over the weekend.

“You won’t see anything modern from us reenactors,” adds Saho. “It will look like you’ve been transported back to the 1860s.”
