Predictions for the 2024 Emmy nominations

Predictions for the 2024 Emmy nominations

On Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. PST, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will announce its nominees for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, as selected by its 22,000 voting members from 31 “peer groups” during the nomination period from June 13-24. Below are my final predictions for what or who will be nominated in 33 of the major categories. The TV Academy will actually announce nominees for 124 categories, with more of these I will add to the forecast in the coming weeks.

Last year, HBO/Max led the way among platforms with 127 Emmy nominations, and among programs, HBO/Max’s drama series Succession (at 27), in its last eligible season. This year, I expect Netflix, with its abundance of heavily consumed competitors in all categories – especially its miniseries Baby reindeer And Ripley – is ready to reclaim the title of platform leader, which it secured for the first and last time in 2018.

But don’t underestimate FX, which will make big money with its new drama series. Shogun and the second season of the comedy series The bearwhich will both be among the most nominated programs; or HBO/Max, which should have a strong showing with its returning comedy series HackingDrama series The Gilded Age and limited/anthology series True Detectiveas well as his impressive range of non-fiction books and variety series, especially Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

Be sure to check back after the announcement to read my in-depth analysis of the TV Academy’s selections!
