RNC 2024 – Day 2 updates: Trump’s rivals take center stage, along with divine intervention

RNC 2024 – Day 2 updates: Trump’s rivals take center stage, along with divine intervention

In her final speech of the evening, RNC co-chair Lara Trump focused primarily on the assassination attempt on her father-in-law.

“It’s perhaps no surprise that I actually gave a very different speech than the one I intended to give here tonight,” she began. “That changed on Saturday evening at 6:11 p.m. You can’t prepare for a moment like this.”

Lara Trump recounted how she reached for the remote control to turn off the television so her children would not see the pictures of their grandfather.

She said the incident was a “harrowing reminder that as Americans we must always remember that there is more that unites us than divides us.”

She thanked the former president for his “resilience,” called him a “lion,” and urged voters to vote for him.

“In that split second on Saturday, Donald Trump reminded us all of that very history and who we are as a nation at our core. That is the Donald Trump I know,” she said.

Sources told ABC News that the entire Trump family will be present at the RNC on Thursday night.

Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner will accompany the former president during his acceptance speech.

It will be the first time in this presidential election that the Trump family will come together.

According to sources, Melania and Ivanka will not speak but will be present to show their support.

When Lara Trump spoke about Donald Trump’s fist being clenched after the shooting at his rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend, the RNC crowd responded by raising their own fists in the air.

“Fight, fight, fight,” they shouted.

ABC News reached out to several Nikki Haley supporters to ask for their reaction to her speech at the RNC on Tuesday night.

Jack LaFrankie, a voter from Tennessee, told ABC News he agreed with much of Haley’s speech and would reluctantly vote for Trump if the election were held today.

Eli Raykinstein, a rising sophomore at Michigan State University, said her speech resonated with him.

“I also liked how she spoke to people who weren’t yet fully convinced about Trump, and not just the base he already has,” Raykinstein said.

Thalia Flores of New Hampshire said she would never vote for Trump.

“Never. She just bought herself a cabinet post – probably Secretary of State,” she said.

After Haley’s speech, Louis Hibbs, an undecided voter from Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, told ABC News that he was still undecided.

“I still can’t help but look back at the debate and how Biden stumbled over his own words,” he said.

Undecided North Carolina voter Roger Stewart told ABC News that Haley is a true Republican.

“I’m still undecided. That’s my official and honest statement. But I really liked her speech,” Stewart said.
