The summer relaunch of the Menier Chocolate Factory The Baker’s Wife, The musical by Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein, which was famously canceled before its premiere on Broadway and which became the musical classic “Meadowlark,” will have its official premiere on July 17, after previews began on July 6.

Gordon Greenberg, recently on Broadway with The heart of rock and roll, is directing the production, which is scheduled to run until September 14th.

The cast is led by Lucie Jones (Evil) as Genevieve, Olivier nominee Clive Rowe (Sister act) as Baker, Bobbie Chambers as Niece, Mark Extance as Teacher, Josefina Gabrielle as Denise, Jack Gardner as Philippe, Hana Ichijo as Niece, Michael Matus as Marquis, Robyn Rose as Niece, David Seadon-Young as Antoine, Matthew Seadon-Young as Priest, Joaquin Pedro Valdes as Dominique, Sutara Gayle as Therese, Norman Pace as Claude, Liam Tamne as Barnaby and Finty Williams as Hortense, and ensemble members Bart Lambert, David Pendlebury and Annabelle Williams.

Based on the movie The Baker’s Wife by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, The Baker’s Wifefeatures music and lyrics by Schwartz and a book by Stein. The arrival of a new Baker and his younger wife turns a provincial French village upside down in the musical, which has achieved cult status thanks to a recording starring Patti LuPone and Paul Sorvino. The score also includes “Gifts of Love,” “Chanson” and “Proud Lady.”

The production also features set design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting design by Paul Anderson, choreography by Matt Cole, sound design by Yvonne Gilbert, music direction and orchestration by Stuart Morley, and musical supervision by Dustin Conrad.
