Singer Porsche Smith-Angel releases new EP “Cosmic Child”
After a 7-year album hiatus, the singer-songwriter and producer formerly known as Porsche Smith has returned with a new name and new music. Now with “Angel” as part of her stage name, it’s no surprise that her upcoming music release takes on the same ethereal theme. Cosmic ChildThe EP, which is due to be released in autumn 2024, will be preceded by a series of eclectic singles, the first being “The sun is still burning”. Although acoustic with vocals that make listeners reflect on the parallels between everyday life and the universe in general, the following single “Heavenly Night” unleashes Angel’s inner DJ and dispenses with lyrics entirely, but gets you dancing through the production alone. The third single has yet to be decided, but is likely to be a collaboration with an industry big name.
Prior to her recent wave of musical inspiration, the Bay Area California native (and now Atlanta resident) has 3 albums, 2 EPs, 1 mixtape, and a stack of singles under her belt with songwriting credits for other artists. Porsche has been featured twice in ESSENCE Magazine, with music featured in the Netflix Africa comedy “Payday.” She is also a winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Awards (among other awards) and spent 5 years on the high seas as a musical entertainer with Norwegian and Royal Caribbean cruise lines. Angel has also shared the stage with world-renowned artists such as India.Arie and John Legend, to name a few.
When asked why she stepped away from music in recent years, there were a variety of reasons. However, when asked why she returned to music, the singer simply replied: “There are things you want to do and there are things you are born to do. I know I was born to do music – it is my superpower and my gift to the world.”
Let us hope that this cosmic child continues to give the gift that never stops giving: that its heartfelt messages and melodies are heard throughout the cosmos, both now and for generations to come.
