But with the first half of the season now behind us, it’s the perfect time to take a look at the latest World Series odds.

Which team is the favorite for overall victory?

The Dodgers, already battling a number of injuries, suffered another setback last week when it was announced that Dustin May would not return after undergoing elbow surgery last season.

Even though the Dodgers are at the top of the odds list, FOX Sports MLB analyst Ben Verlander admitted in the latest edition of his Power Rankings that they stumbled into the break.

“Speaking of injury news, the Dodgers have moved Yoshinobu Yamamoto from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, which will keep him out of action until at least August 16 with a triceps strain,” he explained.

“Maybe that wasn’t the worst injury news for the Dodgers last week.

“Ace Tyler Glasnow was also placed on the injured list and Dustin May underwent season-ending esophageal surgery, further shrinking their rotation. The Dodgers have not done well on the field recently either, winning just three of their last 11 games. This team definitely needed a break.”

Meanwhile, the best team in the National League, the Phillies, are just behind LA at +500. Verlander believes they are far superior to everyone else so far this year, placing them No. 1 on his list.

“There was no better baseball team than the Phillies in the first half of the season,” he said.

“They have won four more games than anyone else and lead the majors in run differential (plus 110).

“It’s no surprise that they have eight All-Stars, including five pitchers, a record. Bryce Harper has recorded an OPS of 1.009 since returning from a brief injury break, while Trea Turner has already hit eight home runs in July, the most in the MLB.”
