A US country singer has apologized and admitted that she was drunk when she sang an incorrect version of the national anthem.

Ingrid Andress’s performance at a baseball game was heavily criticized, eliciting a gasp from the audience after a particularly shaky high note.

She opened the show at the Home Run Derby in Arlington on Monday, Texasand it didn’t take long for people to express their shock on social media.

“I’m so sorry. I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was, I think, one of the worst national anthems I’ve ever heard in my entire life,” Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr said on X.

“When your mother lied to you and said you were a great singer,” read a top comment on YouTube.

The 32-year-old immediately apologized and posted on Instagram: “I’m not going to tell you any nonsense, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

“That wasn’t me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that performance. I’ll tell you what rehab is like, I hear it’s a lot of fun.”

Andress has won four Grammys and has made a name for herself by writing songs for other artists, including Bebe Rexha’s “Girl In The Mirror” and Charli XCX’s “Boys.”

The Nashville native’s debut album was released in 2020 and her breakthrough single “More Hearts Than Mine” reached number 30 on the US charts.
