UConn coach Dan Hurley buys book after rejecting Lakers’ million offer

He is designing a book play!

UConn basketball coach Dan Hurley is planning to write a new book, Page Six has exclusively learned, and sources say he’s also planning to talk about his sensational $70 million job offer from the Los Angeles Lakers.

A senior editor was seen reading Hurley’s proposal on a Metro-North train on Tuesday, and multiple sources confirmed the book is making the rounds.

We heard that Hurley will be meeting with potential co-writers.

One literary source commented on the proposal: “He is considering running a ‘fast break to the Showtime Lakers.'”

Last month, Hurley – the Huskies’ reigning two-time national champion coach – turned down a six-year, $70 million job as head coach of the storied NBA franchise.

Instead, Hurley signed a six-year, $32.1 million contract extension after winning his first title in 2023.

Reports circulated that the great college coach was intentionally considering NBA candidacies in order to get a raise at UConn.

But he fueled the furor by saying in an interview last month: “One of the worst interpretations I’ve heard is that this was leverage on my part to improve my situation at UConn… I don’t need leverage here. We’ve won two national championships in a row here.”

One source joked about the editor who read the proposal on the train: “Perhaps the literary types should get some spy training before they take the Mad Men Express to New York. So it seems.”

Another insider from the New York publishing world said of reading coveted offers in public: “You have to be careful when reading an offer – especially on the subway or Metro North. Or on any train coming from Brooklyn or Montclair (New Jersey). Even the jitney could be risky!”

Hurley said his love for the Lakers even affected his personal life.

On “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz,” he said of his wife Andrea: “At first she was in tears… the first couple of days she got really angry and emotional, not that she hit me or anything… she got emotional and said, ‘I can’t believe you’re bringing me this. Our life is so great… it’s perfect. Our life couldn’t be better and now you’re bringing me this shit.'”

Hurley himself played basketball at St. Anthony High School in New Jersey – where his father, Bob Hurley Sr., was coach – and at Seton Hall. His brother, Bobby Hurley, is a former player at Duke and Sacramento Kings and is the head coach at Arizona State.
