Mirage closes Siegfried and Roy’s casino in Las Vegas on Wednesday

After more than three decades in business, the famous Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas announced in May that it would close its doors. The casino looks back at the famous guests it has had.

As the Mirage Hotel and Casino prepares to close on July 17, the casino is wrapping up its week-long $1.6 million giveaway.

A gambling policy introduced in Nevada gave casino players the opportunity to secure a portion of the casino’s mandatory $1.6 million payout.

Players had the opportunity to play slots or table games and win prizes during the “Progressive Finale Cash Giveaway,” which began on July 9 and promised a payout of over $1.6 million in cash. Visitors had the chance to win $1.2 million on slots and $400,000 on table games, the casino said.

$1.2 million in slot machine prizes

Players who wanted to try their luck on the slots could play the game using their free Hard Rock Unity Card, which must be inserted at each drawing to be eligible to win. The drawings took place every hour in the afternoons at the beginning of the month and then again on Tuesdays. The final $100,000 was to be paid out on Tuesday, according to the casino.

Why is the Mirage closing?

After more than thirty years in business, the Mirage Hotel and Casino announced in May that it would close its doors.

The hotel’s announcement was posted on its Facebook page on May 15. However, the hotel’s post revealed that this is not the end of its entertainment business.

The company announced that the resort will reopen as Hard Rock Las Vegas in 2027.

“We look forward to beginning an exciting journey into a new era where Hard Rock Las Vegas will light up the Strip with entertainment, innovation and world-class hospitality,” the post said.
