New gold and silver investment bar series “Australian Zoo” features the giraffe

The series features some of the better-known residents of this exceptional zoo in the state of Queensland, which is also paying more attention to habitat and conservation initiatives. This year’s giraffe coins follow the southern white rhinoceros, the African and Asian elephants in 2022, the cheetah in 2021 and the Sumatran tiger in 2020. The Royal Australian Mint and Australia Zoo work closely with conservation organizations in Africa to protect these important and endangered species.

The design focuses on giraffes, with the size and elegance of this mighty creature artistically expressed on the back. Giraffes are native to Africa and are a near-threatened species due to illegal poaching and habitat destruction. With their massive presence and distinctive patterns, visitors can easily spot them in their recreated African savannah habitat at Australia Zoo. These graceful giants can weigh over 1,300 kilograms or 2900 pounds and grow to over five meters or 16 feet tall. Despite their impressive stature, these gentle giants are often seen in groups colloquially known as Towers. With its unique long neck and tongue, the giraffe can consume up to 45 kilograms or nearly 100 pounds of leaves per day. Female giraffes take a long time to raise their calf, with the gestation period being nearly 15 months. During the gestation period, the calf can fully develop and is ready to thrive in the demanding African environment.

The reverse of the gold and silver bullion coins were designed by the artist Aleksandra Stokic and are based on current photographs of two different giraffe images.

1 $ Silver – The reverse features a portrait of an adult and a young giraffe, with a reference to their natural habitat on the plains of Africa in the background and an acacia tree, one of their main sources of food, to the right. The text is at the bottom left AUSTRALIA ZOO GIRAFFE together with the specifications of the coins of 1 ounce .999 Ag.

$100 Gold – The reverse of the gold bullion coin shows two standing giraffes, mother and calf, as seen in the African savannah enclosure at Australia Zoo. To the left of the main motif is the text AUSTRALIA ZOO GIRAFFE together with the specifications of the coins of 1 oz .9999 Au.

The obverse of the gold and silver coins features the definitive effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, created by engraver Dan Thorne. The coins bear the year 2024 which is part of the legend that surrounds the figure. The face value 100 DOLLAR (Gold) or 1 DOLLAR (Silver) is located directly below the image of the king.
