Chappell Roan and Billie Eilish share this famous fan

Chappell Roan and Billie Eilish are two of the biggest pop stars of our time, and they just got the seal of approval from another music icon: Marina, formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds.

In a new interview with Attitude, Marina commented on both Roan and Eilish’s music, praising both. Roan is often compared to the “Froot” singer (especially Marina’s Electra Heart era from the early 2010s), which Marina says makes perfect sense.

“I love her. I can totally understand why people make comparisons,” Marina said. “She’s very idiosyncratic and very much herself. When I first heard her record, I realised how much I’d been longing for albums with identity and cohesion. Bring the fun back!”

And as for Eilish, Marina said it was a huge compliment to hear that the “Lunch” singer was a fan of hers, and the feeling was mutual.

“It’s flattering, especially when the artist is great – I’m a fan of Billie,” she said.

“It feels like a beautiful circle of life in music when someone like Kylie (Minogue) has inspired me and my music has inspired another generation of artists,” Marina continued. “Honestly, part of an artist’s purpose is to be part of the culture and feel like they’re contributing in some way.”

Both Eilish and Roan are loud and proud of their queerness, while Marina is an outspoken LGBTQ+ ally with a legion of gay fans. She also spoke about the importance of using your voice, “whether it’s for LGBTQ rights or other political causes.”

“We live in a time where staying silent doesn’t really help anyone,” she continued. “I feel like we all crave knowing that the people we look up to are human too and feel the same way we do. However, not everyone is the same. That’s OK, too.”

The interview also revealed that Marina has a new album in the works, due out in 2025: “I’m working on a new record and I love it,” she said. “It’s definitely coming out next year.” Following her comments about wanting to bring back the fun, perhaps this album will see the return of Marina’s cheesier side. Anyone else in the mood for Elektra Heart 2?
