Three of Enzo Fernandez’s French Chelsea teammates unfollow him on Instagram after a ‘racist’ song
- Enzo Fernandez shot a video of his Argentine teammates singing on Sunday
- The song, a racist chant about French players, was widely condemned
- Wesley Fofana, a Chelsea teammate of Fernandez, called it “unbridled racism”
Three of Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea teammates have unfollowed him on Instagram after he was accused of filming himself and the Argentina national team singing a “racist” chant.
Fernandez is at the centre of controversy after watching Argentina’s Copa America victory over Colombia via live stream on Sunday.
Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), described the players as starting a “racist and discriminatory” chant about their French colleagues and vowed to file a complaint with FIFA.
Fernandez’s Chelsea teammate Wesley Fofana, who is French and the son of an Ivorian father, described the video on X (formerly Twitter) as “unbridled racism”.
Now it has been revealed that he, Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto have unfollowed the player on social media.
This comes as new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca prepares the Blues players for their upcoming US pre-season tour.
Chelsea are conducting their own investigation after their player was at the centre of this storm and sources said they are taking the matter very seriously and will deal with it accordingly.

The Premier League club boasts a large number of French players of black or mixed origin, including Malo Gusto, Lesley Ugochukwu, Christopher Nkunku, Fofana, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile.
Fofana shared footage of the video originally shot by Fernandez along with the caption in French: “Football in 2024: unbridled racism,” followed by three facepalm emojis.
The song is based on the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, in which Argentina defeated France. The lyrics describe the French players as being “from Angola” or having a “Nigerian” mother and a “Cameroonian” father.
The FFF condemned the chants, adding: “Given the gravity of these shocking statements, which are contrary to the values of sport and human rights, the President of the FFF has decided to directly challenge his Argentine counterpart and FIFA and file a complaint for offensive remarks of a racist and discriminatory nature.”
