Chris Rumph considers transfer portal after loss of Adam Kissayi

As is well known throughout the college football world, Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program are not heavily involved in the transfer portal.

By “not heavily involved,” I mean they’re almost not involved at all. The Tigers rarely make a transfer, and when they do, it’s in a low-impact role. One that you don’t see on the field, usually as a backup quarterback.

Love it or hate it, that’s the way Clemson football is right now. Even if they’re not accepting transfers, that doesn’t mean they’re not considering it. During Swinney’s media appearance at the Allen Reeves Football Complex on Tuesday, defensive ends coach Chris Rumph talked about losing Adam Kissayi in the portal and whether they’re considering using the portal to replace him.

“Coach Swinney asked me if I wanted to go into the portal and get somebody,” Rumph said. “I was happy with the depth and the guys we have on the team right now. So when he decided to leave, for whatever reason, I wish him the best of luck, but we have to move on.”

Depth probably would have helped, but those are the guys in the building, so it’s hard to argue against them. Peter Woods moving to defensive end probably made this loss less pressing, especially considering Kissayi was considered a project from the start.
