Jordan Love comments on a possible contract extension with the Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love is under contract through the 2024 season, but the Green Bay Packers quarterback could receive a deal that could potentially rebalance the market for the position before the start of the new season.

Love led the Packers to the NFC Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs last season, his first as the Green Bay Packers’ starting quarterback, and is a major reason for optimism that the franchise can have a serious shot at the Super Bowl in 2024.

During a recent appearance for Bleacher Report, Love talked about what signing with the Packers would mean to him.

“That would mean a lot to me,” Love said. “That would be amazing. I think every player dreams of being able to sign an extension with the team that drafted them. Being able to stay in the same situation, stay with the same team, stay with the organization that believed in you from day one, that’s something I’m definitely looking forward to.”

“Hopefully that will happen here in the future. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season, what our team will face and being able to build something long-term in Green Bay.”

The Packers have built an exciting and talented young core around Love, who completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season.

What is Jordan Love’s contract value with the Green Bay Packers?

Love proved to be one of the league’s most valuable quarterbacks last season, finishing the season with a one-year contract extension worth $13.5 million.

Looking ahead to 2024, the NFL believes that Love could earn over $50 million annually from the Packers with his new contract.

“He has shown by far the most improvement of any quarterback in his draft class,” an NFC personnel executive told me recently, on the condition of anonymity so he could speak freely about a player on another team.

Meanwhile, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo says there should be no rush regarding the timing of Love’s contract extension, even if the two sides cannot reach an agreement before the Packers begin training camp this month.

“I don’t think it’s a big deal,” Romo said in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about whether Love’s contract extension will be finalized before training camp begins. “I think he knows he’s going to be signed. As a quarterback, you let your agent talk. You kind of get over it. If he signs before the season, great. But your job as an organization is, ‘we’re going to sign the contract. You know that, we know that, don’t worry.’ Everyone talks about, ‘what happens if you get injured?’ And so teams usually sell that to you a little bit like, ‘well, in case you get injured.’

“The truth is that even if a quarterback of that caliber was injured, signing him to almost the same contract wouldn’t change anything. You’d just be very disappointed. I think for him, like for anyone else, it’s going to happen, don’t worry, rest assured.”
