Chelsea are investigating a video posted on social media by Enzo Fernandez that the French Football Federation has labelled racist.

Fernandez and some of his Argentine teammates sang a derogatory song about the French team in a live Instagram video posted on his account after they beat Colombia in the Copa America final on Sunday.

Wesley Fofana, Fernandez’s teammate at Chelsea, reposted the video on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the words: “Football in 2024: unbridled racism.”

The French Football Federation has announced that it will file a lawsuit because the Argentine players were accused of making “racist, offensive and discriminatory remarks.”

The French Football Federation FFF said in a statement that its president Philippe Diallo would ask FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the head of the Argentine Football Association Claudio Fabian Tapia to respond to the alleged comments.

The statement read: “The President of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, strongly condemns the unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks made against the players of the French team in connection with a song sung by players and fans of the Argentine team after their victory in the Copa America and circulated in a video on social media.

“Given the seriousness of these shocking statements, which are contrary to the values of sport and human rights, the President of the FFF has decided to directly challenge his Argentine counterpart and FIFA and file a complaint for offensive statements of a racist and discriminatory nature.”

Argentina defeated France in the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on penalties. During the match, some fans of the Argentine team sang discriminatory songs.

Sky Sports News has contacted FIFA for comment.
