Just one week after Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet in an attack on a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, he is about to take the big stage again in Grand Rapids, Michigan – this time with his official vice presidential candidate JD Vance.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 20, at 5 p.m. at Van Andel Arena and will mark the start of the Trump-Vance presidential election.

Trump’s running mate, the Ohio senator, was officially nominated on Monday, the first day of the Republican National Convention. Follow the latest news, updates and notable moments from the week-long convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on USA TODAY’s live blog.

After suspected gunman Thomas Mathew Crooks fired shots, the FBI said politicians and experts turned to the Secret Service for answers. Among them was Michigan’s 5th District Rep. Tim Walberg, who called the “security lapses” during Trump’s last rally on X, formerly known as Twitter, “unacceptable.”
