Rob Lowe says Tommy Boy stars Chris Farley and David Spade fought over him

Rob Lowe shares some of his Tommy Young the antics of co-stars David Spade and Chris Farley during the filming of the popular 90s comedy.

During Lowe’s performance on Monday, July 15, on The Rich Eisen Show to promote his Netflix series UnstableHost Rich Eisen asked the actor if it was true that Spade, 59, and the late Farley were involved in a physical altercation over him during the filming of “The 40th Anniversary.” Tommy Young.

“Oh yeah. I just saw Spade this weekend, we were at a party and we were talking about how much they were fighting over me,” said Lowe, 60. “The big fight came because I came to the hotel after filming. Spade wasn’t filming that day, but Farley was, and Farley and I went to the hot tub, sauna and Jacuzzi.”

“And the next day, apparently Farley was like, ‘Guess who I was in the hot tub with?’ And Spade was like, ‘Who?’ ‘Me and Rob.’ He was like, ‘You didn’t call me!'” Lowe recalled. “I walked in and they were fighting over it. Like I was the girl.”

Lowe clarified that he saw the co-stars and close friends wrestling at that moment; he also said that he once saw the two physically fight after Farley accidentally stepped on Spade’s turkey sandwich.

“It was like I was the pretty girl, they were very possessive,” he added of the spats between Spade and Farley. “Absolutely true. ‘I was in the hot tub.’ So crazy.”

Lowe appeared in the 1995 comedy Tommy Young as Paul Barish, the stepbrother of Farley’s character Tommy. The late comedian – Farley died in 1997 at the age of 33 – played a foolish heir to his father’s auto parts company in the film, while Spade portrayed another employee tasked with showing him the ropes. The film was one of many classic comedies Farley made during his time at Saturday Night Live in the years before he died of a drug overdose.

“None of us were aware of the impact that Tommy Young ” Lowe said about the film during his appearance at The Rich Eisen Show. “I can’t tell you how much feedback I get (from) Tommy Young and how happy I am that I was there because it means so much to people.”

“My memory of it is that we didn’t know what was going on – we were having a really good time,” he added. “I remember Farley drinking an espresso before every take – not before every scene, but before every take.”
