Wayland Lions Club holds June meeting

The Wayland Lions Club held its June meeting at Your Choice Restaurant. 12 members attended.

President Theresa Ferdig opened the meeting and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Bill Grimm led the prayer.

Secretary Bill Grimm read the minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer’s report. Both were adopted unanimously.

Old business:

  1. The second banner was obtained for new badges and recognition, as the original banner is full of badges and recognition for community events and donations of the Wayland Lions Club.
  2. President Theresa Ferdig read scholarship appreciation letters from Marie Farmer and Zoey Dennler, who graduated from WACO High School.
  3. Lion Stan Meyer and Theresa Ferdig coordinated the blood drive on June 6, 2024. 31 units were donated, including 5 Double Reds.
  4. The last reminder for the Wayland Lions Club’s American Flag Program will be sent out before Independence Day on July 4th. Please donate your $35 before July 4th or the flags will not be displayed. Remember, your flag donation will benefit the Wayland communities, such as scholarships and community and individual donations.

The Wayland Lions Club American Flag Program celebrates 5 holidays. The cost of the flag and pole provided to applicants is $35. The 5 holidays this year are:

  1. Remembrance Day – May 7, 2024
  2. Flag Day—June 14, 2024
  3. Independence Day – July 4, 2024
  4. Labor Day—September 2, 2024
  5. Veterans Day – November 11, 2024

New business:

  • Pancake Breakfast Update (July 4, 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Wayland Community Center):

The Lions golf cart will be in the Fourth of July parade.

The members of the Wayland Lions Club congratulate President Theresa Ferdig on her promotion to Zone Manager, effective July 1, 2024.

  • Lion Stan Meyer assigned the tasks of organizing the event, which included grilling sausages, making pancakes and eggs, serving meals, greeting guests, and cooling down the tables.
  • This is a fun activity and the Wayland Lions would like to invite anyone who would like to help out with the pancake breakfast. You can help the Lions, make new friends and enjoy greeting friends and neighbors.
