The Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series is excited to celebrate a decade of extraordinary music with our upcoming Surf and Sounds Chamber Music Series. For our 10th anniversary, we are honored to present a series of special performances featuring acclaimed tenor Tshombe Selby and the Surf and Sounds Piano Quintet.

From his roots in Manteo, North Carolina, Tshombe Selby has made it to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. After a career that has included performances all over the world, Tshombe returns to Dare County to delight us with his incredible talent in two extraordinary concerts.

About the actors:

Jake Fowler, Music Director, Cello
Jake Fowler, founder of the Surf and Sounds Chamber Music Series, has had an illustrious career that includes tenure with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and international tours with the Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra.

Katie Hyun, violin
Winner of the 2016 Astral Artists National Auditions, Katie Hyun is known for her versatility and passion for social justice through music. She is the founder and director of the Quodlibet Ensemble.

Siwoo Kim, violin
Described by the New York Times as “astute” and “compelling,” Siwoo Kim is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician and co-founder of the VIVO Music Festival.

Luke Fleming, Viola
Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer for his “smoldering refinement,” Luke Fleming is the founding artistic director of the Manhattan Chamber Players and the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival.

Dr. Amanda Halstead, piano
Dr. Amanda Halstead is an active soloist and chamber musician, working with prestigious ensembles such as the National Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. She is also a dedicated music educator.

The Bryan Cultural Series is a non-profit organization founded in 2012. The board is comprised of nine community leaders dedicated to providing a series of quality cultural events.
