Trevor Lawrence loves country and mentions George Strait and Chris Stapleton

More and more people are starting to rediscover country music. I believe we are approaching a new creative peak in the genre. Now we are seeing the genre enter football with Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Recently, the Clemson champion participated in a celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship. After Trevor finishes one of his rounds, he takes a quick moment to sign autographs like a man of the people. Then, as he rattles off the signatures, an interviewer from Starcade Media asks him a question. What was the best concert Lawrence attended during the NFL offseason?

Trevor immediately pauses and smiles before blurting out a simple answer. “This summer I went to see George Strait and Chris Stapleton. Really good,” he reveals.

This tells me that Lawrence loves traditional country music. A little bit of “All My Exes Live in Texas,” a little bit of “Amarillo by Morning” are essential to everyday life. Moreover, it is obvious that Trevor’s taste in modern country music deviates a little from the over-the-top tracks or, worse, the country singers who try their hand at rap.

Trevor Lawrence loves country music, but this NFL star isn’t into it

Not everyone screams the cowboy lifestyle and rocks out to good old country music like Trevor Lawrence. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and LSU legend Joe Burrow breaks many hearts when he says he would rather play anything but country music.

At a press conference, one of the reporters asks Burrow what music he plays on a daily basis. At first, Joe rattles off pretty much every genre you can imagine. “I’m pretty much everywhere,” he says. “I listen to a little bit of indie… a little bit of hip-hop, a little bit of pop.”

Then he breaks the hearts of country fans everywhere. He concludes: “I listen to pretty much anything but country.”

At least country fans can say they have Trevor Lawrence on their side.
