MTG attacks transgender and “illegal aliens” during RNC speech

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene complained about the southern border and attacked transgender people during her speech on the opening night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

After reflecting on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, Greene began a checklist of right-wing extremist arguments, using transphobic rhetoric.

“For far too long, the establishment in Washington has betrayed us. They promised unity and brought division. They promised peace and brought war. They promised normalcy and gave us Transgender Visibility Day on Easter Sunday,” she said. “And let me be clear: There are only two genders. And we are made in God’s image. Amen.”

She then repeated a lie she often tells, claiming that only “illegal aliens” have succeeded in Joe Biden’s America.

Greene said Democrats have “ripped open our borders and let millions of illegal immigrants into the country, driving up the cost of housing and health care while cutting American wages and eliminating jobs… The Democrats’ economy is made of, by and for illegal immigrants.”

She then turned her attention to Ukraine, complaining that Democrats had “spent more than $175 million of your tax dollars securing Ukraine’s borders, but you tell us the border wall is too expensive?”

Trump’s border wall cost around $15 billion, was far from finished and was widely considered ineffective.

Her words at the convention were actually more tempered than the anger she spewed earlier in the week when she tried to pin the blame for Trump’s attempted assassination on the Democrats. She also referred to her political opponents as the “party of pedophiles.”

In fact, little is known about the motives of the 20-year-old who shot Trump on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, killing a 50-year-old rally attendee and injuring two other spectators. The FBI is still investigating the incident.

However, this did not stop Greene from insisting that “the Democrats wanted this to happen” and insinuating that the Democrats were somehow behind the attack.

“The Democratic Party is just evil and yesterday they tried to assassinate President Trump,” she said without evidence on X.

Greene has previously downplayed the Capitol insurrection, posting a campaign video of herself shooting a rifle at a car labeled “socialism” after accusing Biden of giving the Taliban a “kill list” for American citizens. She was also questioned in 2021 about her support for social media posts calling for the assassination of Nancy Pelosi.
