According to court documents and a press release, Northern York County Regional Police allege a Dover Township man beat the family dog, Bali, to death with a baseball bat.

Aston Aguilera, 38, of the 2600 block of Oakland Road, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals – causing great bodily injury or death. He was released on $75,000 bail, according to an affidavit and the news release.

Aguilera’s 19-year-old daughter reported the 5-year-old dog’s death to police and said she saw her father hit the pit bull more than 10 to 15 times with a baseball bat, the affidavit and news release said.

She told an officer that she heard noises coming from the basement on the evening of July 10 and went to investigate. The woman found her father beating Bali with a baseball bat while the dog whined, the affidavit states.

She asked him what he was doing. Aguilera claimed the dog bared its teeth and lunged at him when he tried to push Bali out of bed, the affidavit states.

Bali died on the ground at around 10:13 p.m. on July 10, the affidavit states.

The daughter told police her father frequently mistreated the dog and had hit him several times in the past, the affidavit states. She said this usually happened when he was drinking.

She assumed that he had drunk four beers on the evening of Bali’s death, the affidavit states.

The woman told police that she had never experienced Bali as aggressive.

Aguilera instructed his daughter to help him get construction bags, a vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies to remove the blood from the carpet and walls, the affidavit states. Because he was impaired, Aguilera had his daughter drive him to a field where he disposed of the dog’s carcass.

The daughter took police to the area between East Berlin and North Baker roads in West Manchester Township, where the dog’s body was found. Bali had severe injuries to his head and was covered in blood, the affidavit states.

The dog’s body was handed over to the family for cremation, the press release said.

A phone number for Aguilera could not be found, and no attorney is listed for him in online court records.
