Legendary country musician Willie Nelson faces lifetime university ban

Just about everyone in the world has heard the name of Texas legend Willie Nelson. As soon as you hear his name, you probably think of one or two things, most commonly his music and his love of marijuana. He has built a wonderful music career and continues to help and raise awareness for causes close to his heart, such as supporting American farmers. But before his career took off, he spent some time at a university in Texas, but has since been expelled.

In the 1950s, Willie Nelson attended Baylor University, but the Christian university didn’t exactly like or appreciate everything the singer stood for, and so a ban has been in place since 1988 that prohibits the Texas legend from visiting campus. However, it’s pretty clear that he has no interest in returning to the university he once attended. Here’s a look at an old video with some details about Willie Nelson’s ban at Baylor University.

Some fans want Willie back on campus

Back in 2019, a petition was started calling on Baylor University President Linda Livingstone to lift the ban, but that never happened. At this point, it seems unlikely that Willie will ever return to Baylor University.

Willie will be fine

It doesn’t seem like that little feud from years ago still affects Willie, because he’s still doing what he loves: making music and enjoying his cannabis. He seems to stick to what he’s good at, and we love him for it.

Willie Nelson began his music career in the late 1960s. At that time, he was not a typical country artist from Nashville – he was considered an outlaw.
