Ingrid Andress sang the national anthem at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby – and it was a performance that few will forget.

On Monday, July 15, all of Major League Baseball’s strong hitters competed, but the Home Run Derby winner Teoscar Hernández wasn’t exactly a name on everyone’s lips. Andress, 32, is an up-and-coming country star who quickly went viral when a crowd at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, was visibly confused by her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

One X-user joked that she “united America” ​​with her shaky performance of the song. “Definitely one of the all-time anthems,” said another social media user.

Even some of the baseball players couldn’t hold back their reactions, including the Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm and appeared to hold back his laughter in a clip that also went viral.

Andress has yet to respond to the negative reactions to her performance, but she seemed unfazed as she promoted her upcoming new song on social media on Monday.

1. She is a native of Michigan

Andress is originally from Southfield, Michigan, but grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The singer was homeschooled for most of her life along with her four siblings – three sisters and a brother.

“We were a really big family, there were people everywhere,” she said Flaunt Magazine in September 2023. “I did a lot of snowboarding and playing the piano, it was actually a really relaxed childhood.”

She later attended Rock Canyon High School and briefly attended Berklee College of Music. She has since moved to Nashville.

2. She has a baseball background

The fact that Andress is singing at an MLB event is not a big surprise considering who her father is. The singer’s father, Brad Andresswas a professional baseball coach for the Colorado Rockies.

Ingrid describes herself in her Instagram bio as a “singer-songwriter who has lost a Grammy four times.” In 2021, she was nominated for Best New Artist, Best Country Song for “More Hearts Than Mine” and Best Country Album for “Lady Like.” Two years later, she nabbed her fourth nomination in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for “Wishful Drinking,” a collaboration with Sam Hunt.

4. She is a country singer – sort of

“I guess some would call me country, I just write about my true thoughts and feelings,” explained Ingrid FlauntAndress had his greatest success in the country music scene.
