Chris Brown officially named live commentator for the Buffalo Bills

After serving as interim radio announcer for the Buffalo Bills for more than a season, the team and Audacy’s WGR 550 (WGR-AM) have made it official: Chris Brown will succeed John Murphy in the booth as the Bills’ live radio commentator.

When Murphy retires, Brown will carry on the legacy alongside Eric Wood, who returns as co-commentator for gameday broadcasts on WGR 550, which will feature all Buffalo Bills games as well as pre- and post-game coverage led by Bills beat and sideline reporter Sal Capaccio.

Brown started at WGR in 1997 as a sports reporter for the Bills. His experience spans multiple sports, including live commentary for the Arena Football League, Mid-American Conference and National Professional Soccer League through 2018. He also hosts the weekly podcast Bills in numbers.

Brown took over the interim role after Murphy suffered a stroke late in the 2022 season. Murphy was the “Voice of the Bills” for sixteen years and has been with the team since 1984.

Tim Wenger, senior vice president and market manager at Audacy Buffalo, praised Brown’s extensive experience with the Bills, stating, “Chris is best suited to continue the Bills’ long tradition of informative, passionate and entertaining live commentary. His decades of knowledge of the organization will be invaluable as he takes over the live commentary microphone.”

Buffalo Bills Chief Operating Officer Pete Guelli commented, “Chris has done his job at an extremely high level over the past two seasons, along with Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio. He has a deep institutional knowledge of our team while also understanding what our fans think. We look forward to Chris carrying the torch of the legends this job has produced with Van Miller and John Murphy.”

Brown added, “I have been fortunate to know, work with and learn from Van Miller and John Murphy. I am grateful to be entrusted with this responsibility in the future.”
