RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – After a successful attempt to put the ordinance amending Rapid City’s Vision Fund on the November ballot, dozens of citizens attended the Rapid City Council meeting Monday to voice their concerns about the proposed changes. Six members of the public spoke at the meeting, each criticizing the proposed plans for the historical fund, which they said would limit citizen involvement.

Although the petition from advocacy group Liberty and Justice for All brought the ordinance to a vote, speakers urged the City Council to repeal the ordinance entirely.
“If you put this on the ballot and don’t take it back, folks, you’re going to lose,” said Ranee McFarland Haglund, one of the speakers. “And it’s going to cost Rapid City, it’s going to cost these people and all of us time and money that we just can’t afford. I’d rather give that money to the Vision Fund.”
The Vision Fund revision ordinance was not part of the agenda for Monday’s meeting, so the discussion was closed after general comments from the public.
