Singer criticized for “worst performance of national anthem” at Home Run Derby

Singer Ingrid Andress went viral on Monday night (July 15) after performing the national anthem at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Several X-users have harshly criticized the performance, with one calling it “the worst national anthem I’ve ever heard.”

“This rendition of the national anthem has done more damage to America than Pearl Harbor,” wrote another X-user.

“A new, horrible national anthem just came out,” posted another user.

Andress apologized for her appearance on Monday evening after it sparked severe criticism online.

“I like to take artistic risks, but this interpretation obviously did not hit the intended tone,” she said via the New York Post“I love this country and I honestly did my best.”

Several singers and celebrities have attracted negative attention for their renditions of The Star-Spangled Banner at sporting events, including comedian Roseanne Barr She sang the national anthem at the top of her lungs at a San Diego Padres game in 1990 before grabbing her crotch and spitting on the pitcher’s mound while being booed. Pop singer Fergie also went viral for her unique rendition of the national anthem during the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, for which she later apologized.

Outfielder of the Los Angeles Dodgers Teoscar Hernandez defeated Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.native of nearby Colleyville, 14-13, in the final round of the 2024 Home Run Derby.
