Who is Ingrid Andress? Country singer behind botched MLB national anthem

Ingrid Andress’s performance of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby in July 2024 brought the country singer into the spotlight after she was heavily criticized on social media.

During his appearance before the All-Star festivities at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, even Phillies star Alec Bohm had trouble keeping a straight face.

Before her high-profile appearance, Andress was best known for her budding country music career, which included several hits that made their way onto the Billboard Hot 100 Hits chart and a number of Grammy nominations.

Roots in Colorado and Michigan

The 32-year-old singer was born in Michigan and raised in Colorado and represented her status as an artist by wearing a Rockies cap before the ill-fated performance.

Andress has many ties to baseball, as her father, Brad Andress, was a strength and conditioning coach for the Tigers, Rockies, Mets and the University of Michigan.

She is a country singer

The country singer first entered the music scene when she performed on the second season of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” with the a cappella group Pitch Slapped and returned the following season to compete as part of Delilah.

Andress signed with Warner Music Nashville and Atlantic Records in 2018 and released her first album, “Lady Like,” on March 27, 2020.

Her second album “Good Person” was released in 2022.

The hits “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking” featuring Sam Hunt both landed on the Billboard Hot 100 hits – peaking at numbers 30 and 47 respectively.

Andress has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Country Song and Best Country Album in 2021.

Before her performance at the Home Run Derby, Andress previewed the song “Colorado 9,” which she will release on July 24, 2024.

“Thank you for being there for me when I’ve been living under a rock,” Andress wrote on Instagram when announcing the single. “You are all the best and I can’t wait to see you at my shows.”

Andress is scheduled to perform in Nashville on July 17, 2024 and in Denver on July 24, 2024.
