BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — Chris Brown will be the Bills’ full-time live radio commentator on WGR, the team announced Tuesday.

Brown has served as interim commentator since January 2023, commentating on 18 regular-season games and four playoff games during that time. He was joined throughout the season by analyst Eric Wood and sideline reporter Sal Capaccio.

He officially replaces John Murphy, who assumed the role in 2003. Murphy suffered a stroke in January 2023 and has been recovering since then. He officially retired from his post in May. Murphy was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019.

“This decision made a lot of sense for the Bills and Audacy,” Bills COO Pete Guelli said in a press release. “Chris has done the job at an extremely high level the last two seasons alongside Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio. He has extensive institutional knowledge of our team while also understanding the pulse of our fans. We look forward to Chris carrying the torch of the legends this job has produced with Van Miller and John Murphy.”

Brown is the third full-time live commentator in the team’s history. In addition to his role as commentator, he hosts the weekly talk show One Bills Live on WGR.

The Bills open the preseason at home on August 10 against the Chicago Bears. The regular season opener is on September 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.
