Taylor Swift’s crisis management lesson for business leaders

Taylor Swift’s crisis management lesson for business leaders

After a fan died in the scorching heat at a Taylor Swift concert in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, the music superstar responded in a way that provided an important lesson in crisis management for business managers.

Swift postponed Saturday’s performance because of the heat. The lesson: If you see something, do something.

In a post on her Instagram account, Swift wrote: “I am writing this from my dressing room at the stadium. Due to the extreme temperatures in Rio, the decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow artists and crew must and will always come first.” USA today reported.

Swif did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this story.

This was not the first time Swift said or did something in response to a crisis situation.

Tell your side of the story

When Ticketmaster canceled the planned public sale of tickets for Swift’s Eras tours last November, fans freaked out, according to the New York Just“The company cited ‘extraordinarily high demands on its ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand,'” the news organization reported.

Swift, for her part, took steps to tell her side of the story about the crisis that had angered so many of her fans.

“It is really difficult for me to trust an outside person with such relationships and loyalties, and it is torture for me to simply watch mistakes happen without being able to take action against them,” Swift said in a statement.

“There are a variety of reasons why it has been so difficult for people to get tickets and I am trying to figure out how to improve this situation in the future. I am not going to make excuses for anyone because we have asked them several times if they can handle this kind of demand and we have been assured that they can.”
