Will Delaney, the daughter of Ariel’s original voice actress Jodi Benson, play the Little Mermaid in a new stage show? This is what the report says

Jodi Benson rose to fame voicing the character Ariel in the 1989 film The Little Mermaid. And now, decades later, her daughter Delaney Benson stands onstage as Ariel while her mother watches proudly from the audience. Delaney will play Ariel in Loxen Productions and Area Stage’s immersive adaptation of The Little Mermaid at Area Stage in South Miami.

Area Stage describes the new production on its official website as a slimmer, shorter version in a new, all-encompassing space, redesigned from the ground up to tell that story. The show, which began on July 11, runs through August 4.

The show officially premiered on July 11, and 62-year-old Jodi came to support her daughter. On July 14, a video was uploaded to TikTok showing the voice actor enjoying Delaney’s performance of Ariel’s song Part of Your World for the audience.

In an interview with the Miami Herald’s Mamas Uncut on July 2, Delaney talked about her role as Ariel, noting that the new show is different from the animated film. Delaney said, “This is a new adaptation. It’s 90 minutes. It’s immersive. The audience will be right there with me. I can see it. I can feel it. I can smell it. I’ve never done anything like this before.”
