Ryan Reynolds celebrates the life of Bella Brave.

The 47-year-old actor described the social media star, who died on Sunday, July 14, at the age of 10, as “razor-sharp” and “charming” in a touching tribute on Monday, July 15, after previously meeting Bella in hospital in 2023.

“Bella was so funny and so charming,” Reynolds wrote in his Instagram stories about the TikTok star, also known as Bella Thomson. “I loved getting to know her and am so incredibly sad to hear this news.”

“She had a razor sharp mind and didn’t take any nonsense from anyone. Especially me. Deepest condolences to her family and the staff at @sickkidsvs who cared for her in every way they could,” he added, tagging the SickKids hospital in Toronto where Bella was housed until her death.

Bella died “peacefully” on Sunday, July 14, her mother Kyla Thomson confirmed on TikTok the following day. Her death came days after she was placed in an induced coma due to complications from a lung infection.

“Our brave girl left her legacy here on earth to dance on the streets of gold on July 14, 2024 at 4:19pm ET,” Kyla wrote. “Bella passed away peacefully in our arms. Please keep her name on your lips, memories of her and her courage in your hearts.”

Bella rose to viral fame for her bubbly personality when her parents Kyla and Lyle documented her struggling with numerous health issues, including the rare intestinal disorder Hirschsprung’s disease and severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID).

On December 7, 2023, her mother Kyla revealed that Reynolds met Bella in the hospital two weeks after her colon transplant in August 2023. She also shared a sweet video of the two’s conversation, with Reynolds kneeling next to Bella in her hospital bed.

“How are you?” Reynolds asked in the clip and Bella replied, “Good.”

The Dead Pool The star explained to Bella that he had just filmed the Sick Kids Foundation Christmas jumper campaign down at the hospital. He then asked Bella about her transplant: “So how did it go?” to which she replied with a smile: “Good.”

“It’s really nice to meet you,” Reynolds said. “I’m really glad I could come and say hi – I’ll leave you this too,” he added, holding up an “ugly sweater” from his campaign for Bella. “Because I know you’re longing to wear an ugly sweater like this.”

“I’m not dying to wear it,” Bella joked. “I know you’re not dying to wear it either,” Reynolds agreed.

“It was the sweetest conversation. Like two old friends sharing their hatred of super ugly Christmas sweaters. 😂,” Kyla wrote about the meeting on TikTok.

“Ryan, thank you for everything you do for @SickKids Foundation and in turn for Bella. Thank you for including us in your Christmas sweater campaign and just taking the time to have the sweetest and funniest conversation with my daughter. You are an amazing human being,” she added at the time.
