The first track from Morris’ upcoming EP, Break“Cut!” captures the inner dialogue of the singer who tries to appear perfect every day – while breaking down privately at night.
“‘Cut!’ is about me keeping myself together throughout the day, looking rested, not having a hair out of place, and not canceling appointments with friends because that’s how good I’m supposed to think you’re doing with me,” Morris, 34, said in a press release she received. We weekly“Maybe all that’s true, but at night I drop the mask and let myself scream or collapse to let off steam.”
The singer added: “It’s a cathartic release that doesn’t require secrecy, but there are worldly expectations that hold you together despite your feelings. This song gives me permission to fall apart.”
In the chorus, Morris sings: “I’m screaming ‘cut’ / I need a moment to / Let my tears flow where they may / Honestly, damn it / I’ve held them back long enough / I’ve given it all I’ve got / I’m screaming ‘cut’.”
At another point in the song, Michaels belts out, “I know all my lines / I’m doing annoyingly well / Until the silence of the night calls my bluff.”

Morris’ upcoming EP, out August 2, features five tracks, including “Cut!”, “I Hope I Never Fall in Love,” “Push Me Over,” “Because, Of Course,” and “This Is How a Woman Leaves.”
Morris, who is in the middle of her RSVP reissue Tour, had previously performed her song “I Hope I Never Fall in Love” at a concert on June 12 in Red Rocks, Colorado.
“When you hear the title, you’re going to think, ‘OK, bitch. Yeah, right,'” she told the audience. “I wrote this song with my boyfriend. Delacey. This song is called ‘I Hope I Never Fall in Love’. It’s pretty (self-explanatory).”
The heartbreaking lyrics are about how love has “tainted” her. She sings, “I used to be a bitch when it came to love / I got a little hit and was all messed up / But I loved him to the core and I saw the light / God is my witness, that was the last time.”
Six months before the start of their RSVP reissue Tour, Morris filed for divorce Ryan Hurd in October 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple were married for five years and have a 4-year-old son, Hayes. Their divorce was finalized in December 2023.
