Extremely disturbing writings found after Michigan man shoots at cars from bedroom window

OWOSSO, Mich. — Some extremely disturbing messages were found in the home of a Michigan man accused of shooting at cars from his bedroom window, officials said.

Mack Adam Davis, 21, of Owosso, was arrested in late June and charged with possession of a short-barreled rifle.

2 cars hit by gunfire

Owosso Police officers were called to an intersection near Davis’ home on the morning of July 17, 2024, they said.

Cars parked at two different addresses were hit by gunfire.

One of the car owners told police that their cars had recently been sprayed with homophobic and anti-gay messages.

Weapon found in apartment

Police spoke with several neighbors in the area, including Davis, and concluded that the trajectory of the bullets indicated they had been fired from an upstairs window of his home.

Davis confirmed that the window led to his bedroom. He also said he was the only person in the house on June 16 and 17, the criminal complaint states.

Owosso police searched Davis’ home and found a .22 caliber rifle in his sister’s bedroom closet.

The barrel of the weapon was modified to be 7.5 inches long, making the rifle 18.5 inches long overall.

A rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches long or an overall length less than 26 inches is defined as a short-barreled rifle and must be properly registered, officials said.

Davis admitted to shortening the barrel of the rifle and said it was an “illegal alteration,” police said.

According to authorities, he later admitted to shooting at cars with the gun and smearing them with homophobic and anti-gay messages.

Further discoveries at home

Owosso police said they found 58 shell casings near Davis’ bedroom window. The casings came from a .22 caliber gun.

The two screens in his room had holes from small-caliber bullets, officials said.

“Davis also had items in his home that indicated support for Nazi ideology, including a notebook with a page on which Davis drew a swastika and wrote, ‘Kill them!! F—,’ an Israeli flag with the words ‘anti-Jewish f——killer’ and ‘Death to you all,'” the criminal complaint states.

Police said they found a knife with the words “f—– Killer” written on the blade.

Davis described mass shootings in sympathetic comments and frequently described plans for mass shootings in hospitals, synagogues, schools, mosques and supermarkets, officials said.

However, he “denied any plans for mass murder or that he targeted the cars of the people in question because of their sexual orientation,” the indictment states.

Diploma

Officials argued that Davis’ admission that he “illegally modified” the rifle suggested he had not properly registered it with the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

The criminal complaint states that there is reasonable suspicion that Davis illegally manufactured, possessed and used a short-barreled rifle.
