Ed Sheeran is the king of the streaming era of the Official Charts, claiming the most successful song and album of the last ten years according to the UK’s Official Charts Company.

Sheeran officially dominates the streaming era of the official charts, as the singer’s 2017 album Split and his first single “Shape of You” were named the most successful album and number one song since streams entered the charts ten years ago.

Splitthe album, which “broke” the Official Singles Chart upon its release in March 2017 when 16 of the album’s songs found their way into the top 20, prompting a rule change in the summer of that year limiting entries to a maximum of three per artist, has amassed 4.26 million chart units in both streaming equivalent and pure sales. Divide is also the most streamed album of all time in the UK.

The album’s first single, “Shape of You”, also tops the list of the biggest songs of the last decade with 6.29 million chart units, consisting of 864,000 downloads and 627.27 million streams.

And the accolades don’t end there for Sheeran: he has the second and third most streamed songs of all time in the UK (Shape of You (2) and Perfect (3), eight of the top 40 most downloaded songs of the last decade and the highest video stream numbers of all time when Bad Habits grossed 8.79 million in seven days in July 2021.
