Children’s author Jasper Price and his wife Angie led a story time at the Lincoln Parish Library last Friday.

At this event, the book “A ZOMBIE ASOCKALYPSE” was presented, in which the couple appears in front of a young audience.

Jasper Price explained to the audience how he wrote the book and what inspired him.

“I like to write about adventures with friends because, for me, adventures are fun, but experiencing them with friends is the best,” he said.

He has written two picture books and four middle-grade novels, and his third picture book, titled “Interrobang,” is coming out later this month. This story includes a question mark and an exclamation point that explain what an interobang is.

Jasper and Angie described why this event was important for children.

“We both love reading,” Jasper said. “And we love it when young children love reading. Personally, I would love it if reading and science were as popular as NFL football.”

Angie agreed with him.

“I think the most important thing to get young readers excited about reading is to engage them through a story. When you do that, they learn that reading is a lot of fun and can be an adventure,” she said. “Their world is not enriched if they don’t get exposed to these things at a young age.”

Steve and Leigha Martin brought their two children to the library event and said their son liked the zombie socks the most.

“We came for our boy,” Leigha said. “He wanted to meet a real author. We went to all the library events this summer – the magic shows and the animal shows.”

The Lincoln Parish Library hosts many events throughout the summer to provide the Ruston community with many opportunities for all ages. Lily Everett, Children’s Department Librarian, explained why Jasper Price was the perfect choice for her program and why it is so important to offer many events for children during the summer.

“We’ve looked at a lot of children’s events and his storytelling is really outstanding,” said Everett. “He’s very interactive and you can tell he’s very passionate about his work. He’s full of energy and he cares about what he does. And that’s something we look for in children’s events.”

“Libraries are a great resource. You might not know what resources we have unless you see our fun events and see that we are more than just books. We want to bring people together and show them everything we do.”

The next children’s event at the Lincoln Parish Library is the Wild World Animals program, where participants can learn all about animals and see them up close. The program will take place on Wednesday, July 17, from 2-3 p.m.
