Michigan State men’s basketball center Xavier Booker talks about Jeremy Fears Jr.

Michigan State point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. has done everything he can to get back to peak form after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg last December.

The highly touted point guard missed most of Fears’ highly anticipated freshman season, but has managed to re-emerge into the talented player he can be.

Perhaps Fears’ closest teammate, Xavier Booker, also a 2023 recruit, is looking forward to what’s to come from his fellow Spartan sophomore.

“He’s been great,” Booker said of Fears at the 2024 Moneyball Pro-Am last week. “Honestly, I don’t think he’s slowed down a step. If anything, I think he’s gotten a lot better. So I’m happy for him. He’s my roommate, so we have a pretty close bond. So I’m excited to play with him and be on the floor with him.”

Fears has said he is back to full health, a promising sign for Spartans fans who expect a full year from the former four-star recruit. Despite the leg injury, Fears has clearly gotten fitter since returning to the field this season.

“It wasn’t like that at the beginning, of course, but over time, from about the end of the season until now, he’s gotten a lot better, a lot more explosive,” Booker said.

Fears has a natural talent that has allowed him to do this, but Booker cited another reason why the young guard could be so “explosive.”

“He’s just doing his rehab, taking the stretches seriously and obviously getting the strength back in his legs,” Booker said. “… It’s been a journey for him, so I’m happy for him.”
