Incumbent Lenox Township Supervisor Anthony Reeder Jr. faces competition in the August 6 primary election.

Reeder, a Republican, is being challenged by Scott Clifford, a Republican and current township administrator. The winner will face Democrat Aaron Scott Bowdich for the supervisor’s seat in the general election this fall.

In the race for trustee, six Republican candidates are vying for two spots on the November ballot: incumbent Kathy Riedel Honold and challengers LuAnne Kandell, Joe Marino, Joan Reeder, Joseph E. Rosseel and Gina Walker. The two candidates with the most votes will compete with Democrat Anthony Hamilton Jr. for the two trustee seats in the fall.

The Voice sent questionnaires to all Republican candidates for supervisor and trustee, asking them to write a biography and answer two questions. Each response was limited to 75 words. No responses were received from Clifford, Honold, Kandell, Marino, Joan Reeder, Rosseel and Walker.

A: My name is Anthony Reeder Jr. I am currently 25 years old, a proud graduate of New Haven High School, and the current Lenox Township Supervisor.

Q: What do you think makes you the best qualified candidate?

A: In addition to being the incumbent Township Supervisor, I believe I have the skills necessary to continue to lead Lenox Township and build a coalition with whomever is elected on the Board of Trustees.

Q: What do you think is the biggest problem facing the community and how would you address it if elected?

A: The biggest problem currently facing Lenox Township is the condition of the roads within the township. If re-elected, I plan to work with the Macomb County Road Department to improve the condition of these roads. I also plan to conduct a study and create a plan that incorporates direct input from our citizens, and create a road construction program with projections for future road improvements.

Voting information

On election day, polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The primary election ballot consists of three sections: partisan, nonpartisan, and proposal. In the partisan section, voters must choose candidates from either the Republican or Democratic column. Choosing candidates in both columns voids that section of the ballot. Voters do not have to vote in all sections.

For more information about voting, call the Lenox Township Clerk’s Office at 586-727-2085, extension 115, or visit michigan.gov/vote.
