2 people unresponsive after finding capsized sailboat in Lake Michigan, search continues

Two people were found unconscious today hours after a capsized sailboat was recovered in Lake Michigan, officials said. They were miles away from where the boat was found.

The search for a third person who was on board the ship continues. U.S. Coast Guard, Great Lakes Sector.

Bill Salnik, 32, of Little Suamico, Wisconsin, and his children, ages 3 and 5, were last heard from around 4 p.m. Saturday as they departed from Green Island in Lake Michigan’s Green Bay. They were supposed to return to a marina near Oconto, Wisconsin, but never arrived.

Salnik’s truck and trailer were found at the boat ramp. His phone immediately went to voicemail.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, the disappearance was reported to the authorities and the search began.

The capsized 18-foot Gulf Coast sailboat was found capsized south of Chambers Island at 6:22 a.m. today. It was towed to shore.

No one was found near the ship. The search continued.

At 2:42 p.m., the USCG announced that two people had been found and recovered approximately three nautical miles from the ship’s salvage location.

The search for the third missing person continues by sea and air.

Officials did not provide any information about who was found and who was still missing.
