The father’s death was classified as suicide

At 4:38 a.m. Saturday morning, officers arrived at the Charles Street factory, which became the first scene of a multi-city homicide investigation led by the SJPD.

On Monday, the Santa Clara County Coroner confirmed the deceased’s identity as Ellie.

“The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation,” the SJPD said in a press release Monday evening. “Investigators continue to work around the clock to find answers, including identifying the suspect responsible for this horrific crime.”

GreenWaste spokesman Frederick Ghai told The Standard that the recycling company had offered on-site counselling to workers who found Ellie’s body.

“Our thoughts continue to be with Ellie Lorenzo’s family and our staff during this difficult time,” Ghai said.

Tipsters who provide details that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward through Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers.

Ellie’s death was the 19th homicide in San Jose in 2024.

“The San Jose Police Department would like to extend its sincere condolences to Ellie’s family,” the SJPD press release concluded. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this unimaginable and tragic time. Ellie deserves better. May she rest in peace.”

A GoFundMe campaign for the girl’s family had raised nearly $90,000 by Monday evening.

“In an unbearable tragedy, Ellie was taken from us at the age of 3,” the crowdfunding page states. “We remember Ellie with her big smile, her kind and playful nature and a life full of love.”

The organizer says the money raised through the campaign will help pay for funeral and memorial services and support Ellie’s mother and grandmother.
